Use These Facial Tips as a Starting Point
At the top of the Facial Tips List – Remove Make Up
If you wear makeup, be sure to take it off before slipping between the sheets. Left on makeup can lead to clogged pores which can lead to other skin conditions.
A little water splashed on your face, or a gentle skin cleanser will not do the job correctly. Makeup takes cleansers for the purpose of taking off makeup. Most will be an oil-based makeup remover. Look for facial washes which state they are made to take off makeup.
It will be tempting to get one wrapped in marketing promises, but that can lead to toxicity issues. It is better to look for “gentle” “pH-balanced” and “fragrance-free” claims, then confirm the ingredients.
Facial Tips – We are what we Eat
Watch what is on your plate.
Radiant skin is promoted with a diet rich in vitamin C, low in fats and low sugar intake. Remember safe water is also a food choice. Watch your beverage options. Your diet and water should allow keeping you balance allowing your cells to maintain a healthy balance.
Facial Tips – Sun Yes, Sun Burn, No
Sunlight is healthy. Too much sunlight is unhealthy. Avoid too much tanning and sun exposure. UVA and UVB can burn, dry and age your skin. Please do not take this lightly. According to Consumer Reports, the tanning UVA rays trick the skin to darken in an imperfect response to present more damage. While people think tanning a healthy look, it can be a sign of DNA damage. The tanning response can lead to mutations and trigger skin cancer.
Hats and Clothing work well for blocking the sun. It had to be said. While clothing may not always be socially easy, it is probably the most available and least toxic option on the table.
If you want to use a sunscreen, use a product with an SPF [Sun Protection Factor] rating of 15 or more for best results. According to the Consumer Report linked above, after an SPF rating of 30 – 50 any increased SPF advantages are diminishing quickly.
If you plan to be at the beach, around water or snow on a sunny or cloudy day, remember to protect your skin from the reflected light. Even if you are sitting in the shade but still have the reflected light, you will need to be careful.
Facial Tip – Ugh, Exercise
Exercising is healthy for your body. We all know it, but not everyone does it. If we substitute the word, ‘movement’ for ‘exercise’ would that help?
Think of it as getting your blood circulating to help detox and cleanse your body.
A body in motion will want to stay in motion. A body not on the move will probably watch too much TV.
Your body heals during sleep. Not enough sleep will translate into not enough healing making tomorrow a little bit harder. Your skin gets tired too. Bags under the eyes is a sign to be more sleep.
The lack of sleep will also encourage your body to ask for sugar [energy] in the morning and most of the day. You may also respond to the lack of sleep by use of too much caffeine which can start an energy crash cycle needing more sugar and more caffeine,
Hydrate – H2O to The Rescue
Point blank, if you are not drinking water, you are not hydrating. Remember water is food, not a beverage. Your body is about 75% water and not 75% tea, coffee, soda, juice, lemonade.
How much? Forget everything you have heard. Your water output should be almost clear with very little color. Want a quick test? Pinch the skin on the top of the skin. If the formed ridge disappears very quickly, you are water hydrated. If the rig stays even for a short time, you are probably not hydrated.
Yes, there is water in food, but brings us back to the diet issue.
Have you noticed your skin when you are stressed? Does it break out more? Stress changes the chemicals in the body which can affect the skin.
Lots of things add stress to our lives. Managing stress is a huge topic by itself.
If we have to be in stress, then learn to identify the sources and manage them.
If too much activity stresses you, then eliminate less productive activities. The action does not mean production or success.
Doing less, with less pressure and expectations on you, along with a quiet time for just you, may work wonders.
Here just might be the biggie for some. You have heard it before.
The Serenity Prayer from the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr.
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.”
